In Advanced 1 we are looking at past and present time phrases and using them in sentences to talk about British rock group Queen who are totally and utterly timeless in my estimation! ; ) Here is a great version of 'I Want to Break Free' which we are doing in class to complement the vocabulary activity. Listen again and leave your reactions and comments below. Some motivating questions could be:
Do you like this version?
What do you think the song is about?
Enjoy this fabulous group and if you are curious why not do some research on them and let us know in the comments box what you've discovered.
Also just to add on another Queen Song: We Are the Champions...let us know what you think of it. This song has been sung a lot in Spain recently...and maybe Las Palmas will have reason to sing it again if the city becomes European City of Culture! ; )

hello, this song is about a man or a woman (could be both) who is dissatisfied with his or her couple. He or She feels alone in his/her life and starts to dream about another special relationship with another person. But in the end, this is just a dream I when he/ske wakes up, he/she realizes that he/she is still living the same boring life as before.

Hi Liz,I think this song is one of the best of Queen.
ResponderEliminarWho has not ever felt uncontrollable desires to break ties and heavy situations in life?.
The video in fact, was a parody or satire of the british novel"Coronation Street" where the members of the Group, disguised as women played a character of that novel.
Launched in April 1984 was a success in Europe except in USA because it was considered as an apology of homosxuality and not like a parody.
the song was censured in radio and tv programs.
This was unfair because other singers like Madonna for example wih her song " like a prayer" and other groups were successfull in USA at that time.Rgds. Raquel Garcia
Thanks, Raquel, that is very interesting, I hadn't known of its history.
