ADVANCED 2 EXAM COMMENTS AND ADVICE

Hi everyone,

I would just like to confirm some points that I have already covered in class regarding the exams.

Writing Exam

1. The Proficiency Exam in Writing is based on all the writings we have studied, as you know... (review, report,  story/descriptions, article, discursive compositions, summaries, informal letter, letter of application, letter of complaint...). If you have been practising the writings during the year, you should do ok. Last night in class, I gave a clue which was actually wrong as I said that the writings in this exam had not appeared before in the exams we did throughout the year but that isn't right....some of them have appeared!


2. For those of you who still need to get feedback on their writing corrections, can you bring them to class next Monday and while you are doing the Reading Exam, I will check the corrections you have done.


3. As I have reiterated lots of time in class, I am looking for variety in both advanced level grammar and vocabulary...good organisation and coherence and relevance. It is essential to not have two or more 'basic' grammar mistakes in order to pass...so check thoroughly before handing in the writing exam. Some of you have improved your writing greatly throughout the year ...I salute you for that and keep up the good work now in the exam.

Speaking Exam

1. This is basically the same advice I have given Intermediate 1 - stay calm and focused and you should do ok. And as I have emphasised lots of times, use variety in your advanced level grammar and vocabulary and organise your thoughts and ideas in a coherent and relevant way.

2. Please don't memorise large chunks of information as this will not sound 'natural' in the exam.

General Comments

2. The results of the exams will be posted on the noticeboard on the 31st of May at 7pm. If you would like to talk to me about your results, I will be available between 7pm and 8.30pm to meet you in the classroom.
